The Brief…
To showcase its premium rum, the guys at Kraken wanted to host an unforgettable media dinner and cocktail party. Our culinary minds started whirring; what dishes work best with rum how do we capture the essence of the drink and complement the rum? To accompany our delicious menu, Kraken would be creating their renowned Perfect Storm cocktail; Kraken rum with ginger beer and lime, a Black Daquiri, Pornstar Darkini and the Black Lullaby. There was definitely a theme in the narrative Kraken wanted to create.
Then came the first curveball. The event was to take its inspiration from the Rain Room at the Barbican and create ‘a perfect storm’ theme for the event. The second curveball was the colour of the dishes…they had to be black.
The Inspiration…

The Rain Room was a collaboration between artists Hannes Foch, Florian Ortkrass and Stuart Wood. It was a 100 square metre field of falling water which visitors are invited to walk into. Sensors detect where visitors are standing, and the rain stops around them, giving them an experience of how it might feel to control the rain.
